i. General Questions
1. Why book through Extremethings?
We offer our customers a single, attractive, and easy to use format for finding and booking dozens of exciting adventures and sporting activities. Within 5 clicks you could be on your way to an exciting and memorable experience. Furthermore, because of the relationship and volume of business we do with our vendors and service providers, Extremethings has been able to negotiate attractive rates that cannot be found anywhere else.
2. How do I book an activity through Extremethings?
There are two ways to book an experience through Extremethings.com:
a) Give us a Call, we'll set everything up. For more information, see our FAQs regarding telephone orders.
b) Buy an open-dated voucher through our website and make your reservation any time you want within 120-days. For more information, see our FAQs regarding ordering online.
3. How do I know if the activity is available on the date/time I will be in the area?
The general availability of our activities is stated on the Experience Details page of each activity. If you are only going to be in town on a specific date and can only participate in an activity at specific time, please give us a call with those details prior to booking an activity online.
We can tell you if there is availability on your chosen date/time. However, after receiving this information, we advise you book immediately. We cannot reserve or hold dates for anyone unless and until full payment is processed.
4. Where does the activity take place?
All of our activities generally take place in or around Los Angeles, San Diego or Las Vegas, usually within a 40-minute drive. However, some activities will take place outside of this driving radius. For instance, rock climbing in southern California will take place in Joshua Tree or Idyllwild; whereas whitewater rafting excursions take place in Kernville, California. To determine where a specific activity takes place, please see the Experience Details page for the chosen activity.
5. Who is the vendor of my selected activity?
Many of our vendors and service providers grant Extremethings' customers special discounts and rates that are not available anywhere else, even to their own customers. Because of this, the anonymity of our vendors is safeguarded until after an activity is booked. As such, the name and full contact details of the vendor or service provider of your chosen experience will only be provided AFTER you book your selected activity.
6. What if I need to cancel or change dates?
Extremethings and its customers must abide by the cancellation policies of our vendors and service providers. As such, any cancellation, amendment, or refund of an activity must be approved by the activity vendor.
If you need to cancel or change your reservation, you should contact Extremethings.com immediately. We are your advocates and because of the volume of business we do with our vendors and service providers, we may be able to convince them to accept the change.
In general, however, once an activity has been scheduled or reserved for you, you may NOT cancel, reschedule or change it in any way, except if the cancellation is due to adverse weather.
Where cancellations or refunds are granted, it will generally be for experience vouchers bought from us within 10 calendar days. Such cancellations and refunds will be assessed a 10% administration charge (being a minimum charge of $25 and a maximum charge of $50). Beyond 10 calendar days of purchase, we may not accept cancellations.
7. Do you gift wrap vouchers?
Unfortunately, we do not provide gift-wrapping services at this time. Experience vouchers are sent to you electronically, and although they don't look all that pretty, you can print them on fancy paper and stick them in a lovely ribbon envelope before presenting them to your loved one.
ii. Telephone Orders
1. Can I call you and book my activity directly over the telephone?
Absolutely! Just give us a call toll-free at (866) 831-8314 and we will reserve your experience right over the phone. Please Note: we will need to assess at $4.00 transaction fee for all telephone orders, AND the date/time of your reservation may not be changed once the activity is booked.
2. Will I receive a receipt or other confirmation after I book my experience over the telephone?
Once your order is complete, you will receive a Confirmation email which you will need to PRINT to keep as a record. The Confirmation email will contain all of the relevant details of your experience including where to meet, driving directions, what to bring or wear, contact information for the vendor or service provider, etc.
You will also receive an Experience Voucher as an attachment to your Confirmation email. Please sure to BRING YOUR VOUCHER WITH YOU WHEN MEETING THE VENDOR OR SERVICE PROVIDER FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME. Your voucher is your confirmation and receipt of purchase. It contains your Confirmation Code and Order ID number which, should you need to get in touch with Extremethings.com, will help us identify your order quickly.
3. What if I have questions regarding my activity after I book it?
You are encouraged to contact the vendor or service provider to ensure that all your questions are answered and every detail regarding your upcoming activity is worked out. General questions can be relayed directly to us at (866) 831-8314 or via email at info@extremethings.com.
4. May I contact the vendor or service provider directly?
The name and full contact details of the vendor or service provider of your chosen experience will be provided to you AFTER you book your selected activity. You are encouraged to contact the vendor or service provider to ensure that all your questions are answered and every detail is worked out.
iii. Ordering Online
1. Is ordering online safe and secure?
Extremethings.com uses 128-bit encryption when you place your order online. This guarantees the safety and privacy of the information you send to us.
Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) was created to encrypt information BEFORE it traverses the web from your browser to our server. The high security grade 128-bit SSL server certificate is used in all leading e-commerce websites, including Extremethings.com, and is the strongest encryption technology available in the marketplace. The certificates are compatible with 99% of the browsers used on the Internet today.
2. How can I tell if my order is safe and secure?
There are two general indications of a secured web page:
a) Check for the "Lock" icon:
Before entering your personal information on to ANY website, look for the little padlock symbol ( or ) on your web browser in the lower right-hand corner. This indicates that you're connected to a secure website-that is your browser encrypts your account information (and everything else!) before sending it across the web. So even if someone is able to view Internet traffic, your personal information is indecipherable.
Note: THE LOCK ICON IS NOT JUST A PICTURE! Click (or double-click) on it to see details of the site's security. This is important to know because some fraudulent web sites are built with a bar at the bottom of the web page to imitate the lock icon of your browser! Therefore it is necessary to test the functionality built into this lock icon.
b) Check the web page URL:
Another way to check if you're on a secure page is if the URL begins with "https://" instead of "http://".
"http" = not secure "https" = secure (The s stands for 'secured')
3. How do I order a gift experience voucher online?
Ordering gift experiences on Extremethings.com is easy. Simply browse through the various pages within the "EXPERIENCES" tab the top of any page on the website or use the Activity Scroll Bar at the bottom center portion of the home page.
The Experience Details page of your selected activity summarizes important information you should know, including cost, what you should wear or bring in preparation for your chosen experience, restrictions, and if applicable, dates of availability. It is vitally important that you make sure you read and understand this information before placing your order.
When you're ready to place your order you will be lead through the following steps of the site's checkout procedures:
a) Enter the number of packages you wish to purchase (usually one package per person participating in the selected activity) into the table on the Experience Details page and click the "add to cart" button.
b) The shopping chart page lists which activity vouchers you are interested in purchasing. Before you proceed, make sure you check your cart and delete any unwanted activities.
c) Clicking on the "Proceed to Checkout" button will lead you to the login screen where you will enter your email address and, if you have one, your password. If this is your first purchase through Extremethings.com, you will click "No" for No Password and will be led to fill-out a brief registration form including your name, address, and telephone number. You will also be required to set up a password for your Extremethings.com account.
d) Once you've successfully registered and logged in, you will be asked to enter your credit card details for payment. If you also have a special discount or coupon code, this is where you would enter it in the space provided.
e) The next and final step of the checkout process is a summary page. Here we'll list your chosen activities, and payment credentials. You will be asked to list the full name of every participant of the chosen activity and check a box indicating that you have read and agree to the Voucher Term & Conditions and the Acknowledgement of Risk form. Your order will not be complete until you provide this information.
Once your order is complete, you will receive a Confirmation page which you will need to PRINT to keep as a record. You will also be sent a Confirmation Email shortly afterwards. Both of these will contain the details and price of your order, and when you receive them you can consider your order booked. They also contain your Confirmation Code and Order ID number which, should you need to get in touch with Extremethings.com, will help us identify your order quickly.
4. How do I schedule a date/time for my activity using my experience voucher?
The name and full contact details of the vendor or service provider of your chosen experience will be provided to you AFTER you book your selected activity online.
When scheduling your chosen experience, let the vendor or service provider know that you have already paid for your activity in-full through Extremethings.com and quote to them the Confirmation Code on your gift experience voucher. Please sure to BRING YOUR VOUCHER WITH YOU WHEN MEETING THE VENDOR OR SERVICE PROVIDER FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME. Your voucher is your confirmation and receipt of purchase.
B. USING YOUR VOUCHER
1. What are gift vouchers?
When ordering online, YOUR VOUCHER IS THE CONFIRMATION PAGE you will receive after booking an experience through Extremethings.com. This enables you to print your voucher at home, work or wherever you have access to the Internet. This feature allows you to find, book, schedule and participate in your chosen experience all in one afternoon (subject to availability). To read the Voucher Terms & Conditions, please click here.
When ordering over the phone, your voucher will be emailed to you, usually within 4 hours after placing your order.
2. Do vouchers have an expiration date? How long are they good for?
Gift experience vouchers have a 120-day expiration, so you will have about 4 months after purchasing a voucher to schedule your selected activity. Bare in mind, however, that some activities are seasonal or have limited availability, so it is important that you contact the experience vendor or service provider and reserve your date/time soon after purchasing the voucher. C. PARTICIPATING IN YOUR CHOSEN ACTIVITY
1. What do I need to do on the day of my activity?
First, make sure that you are physically capable of participating in your chosen activity. You don't want to be tired, ill, hungry, or hung-over.
Second, ARRIVE 15 to 20 minutes EARLY (prior to your scheduled time). There are usually waivers to sign, equipment to gather, and safety instructions prior to your activity. Arriving early will ensure that you are allotted the full time participating in your chosen activity instead of filling out forms.
Third, let the vendor or service provider know that you have all ready paid for your activity in-full through Extremethings.com and quote to them the Confirmation Code on the upper left-hand portion of your gift experience voucher. They will already have your name and will be expecting you.
2. What do I need to bring or wear?
Please sure to BRING YOUR VOUCHER WITH YOU WHEN MEETING THE VENDOR OR SERVICE PROVIDER FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME. Your voucher is your confirmation and receipt of purchase.
If any technical equipment is necessary, your activity instructor will provide it for you, but make sure you wear clothing appropriate for your chosen activity. This usually means athletic shoes and clothing that allows for full freedom of movement. In some cases, you make need to bring bottled water, sunscreen, sunglasses and/or a hat to protect from the sun. If you are unsure as to what to bring or wear, feel free to contact us at info@extremethings.com and we will tell you exactly what you'll need.
ALWAYS BRING MEDICATIONS WHICH YOU MAY NEED ON ANY TRIP (i.e. asthma inhaler, bee sting kit, etc.).
3. Is there anything else I need to know or need to do?
Always follow the instructions of your activity leader. They are the experts and will ensure your safety. Failure to comply with the authority of the activity leader(s) and/or service providers will cause you to be expelled from the activity without refund.
Additionally, failure to show after registering for an activity and/or or failure to comply with activity requirements such as adequacy of clothing, footwear, equipment, proficiency, experience, timeliness, etc. will disallow you to participate in the activity and you will forfeit all money paid.
4. Doesn't bad weather automatically cancel an activity?
Many of our experiences are dependent on the weather and we advise customers to call the vendor or service provider prior to setting out if the weather looks bad.
However, adverse weather the day before, or the morning of, your chosen event may not automatically cancel your activity. The rain may stop, or the skies might clear, just prior to your scheduled activity, in which case the activity will proceed and you will need to be on hand or risk missing out while forfeiting the money you've paid. Please remember that just because there is menacing weather in your neighborhood, it might be just fine where your activity is to be provided. For all these reasons, if the weather looks adverse, you are instructed to contact your vendor or service provider for a final word on whether or not the activity will take place.
If your event is cancelled due to the weather you will be able to rebook, but your rebooked experience remains subject to weather conditions.
5. What if I have problems with the vendor or service provider during my experience?
Extremethings is your advocate and we will do everything we can to ensure you have a fantastic experience or work on your behalf to rectify any issues you have with one of our vendors. HOWEVER, if you have a problem or complaint on the day of your experience, please bring it to the attention of the vendor or service provider at the venue as soon as possible so they have a chance to put matters right. In general, we consider it unreasonable if you take no action during an event, but then write a letter of complaint at a later date.
D. CANCELLATIONS & AMENDMENTS
1. Can I cancel or change my activity reservation?
Extremethings and its customers must abide by the cancellation policies of its vendors and service providers. As such, any cancellation, amendment, or refund of an activity must be approved by the activity vendor. In general, however, once an activity has been scheduled or reserved for you, you may NOT cancel, reschedule or change it in any way, except if the cancellation is due to adverse weather.
If you have not made a reservation with the activity vendor or service provider, we are happy to provide refunds on experience vouchers purchased online within 10 calendar days of purchase, minus a 10% administration charge (being a minimum charge of $25 and a maximum charge of $50). Beyond 10 calendar days, we may not accept cancellations.
2. Can I exchange my experience voucher for another activity?
Experience vouchers valid for a specific activity may, at the sole discretion of Extremethings.com, be exchanged for another experience voucher prior to its expiration, PROVIDED HOWEVER, that you have not already made a reservation with the activity vendor or service provider.
If such exchange is made, a $25 administration charge will be levied. If your chosen experience is higher in price than the amount originally paid, you will also be charged the difference. If your chosen experience is lower in price than the original amount, the balance will be held in credit for you to use against any future purchase. Please note that where a credit balance is held we will not refund any money.
3. Can I extend the expiration date of my voucher?
If your voucher is about to expire you may extend it for an additional 30 days by paying a supplement of $25, plus any price increase, before it actually expires, PROVIDED HOWEVER, that you have not already made a reservation with the activity vendor or service provider.
4. How long will it take for my refund to be processed?
Extremethings.com acts as a third party supplier for gift experience products and services, and where cancellations are agreed, we will process your refund immediately. It can take 7 - 10 working days for the funds to appear on your statement, depending on your card issuer's clearing times. If we have confirmed your refund to you, please ensure that you have allowed for this time for the funds to clear.
