The basic certification is the Open Water Certification. To receive this certification, you must complete a course that includes five pool dives and four dives in open water, such as a lake or the ocean. You also receive instruction that covers the equipment, the physics, and the physiology of scuba diving. There are a number of additional certifications possible, including Advanced Scuba Diver, Rescue Scuba Diver and Master Scuba Diver.
