Activity Type: Hiking / Camping / Fishing
Skill Level: Intermediate / Some Experience
Malibu, as the road sign says, is "27 Miles of Scenic Beauty," and this narrow strip of land bordered on the east by the Santa Monica Mountains and the west by the Pacific Ocean will play host to our watery rock hopping excursion. Moving through five pristine coastal beaches from El Matador to Leo Carrillo, we will cover 5 miles exploring sandy tunnels, rock formations jutting from the water, cliff faces, and several mega-mansions to the stars which touch the beach. Low tide will also expose other beach treasures such as the private biospheres of tidal pools as well as numerous clams, crustaceans, starfish, and the occasional seal.
Please note this is a solid intermediate-level hike involving rock hoping on exposed, uneven, and mostly wet and slippery rock. Not for the beginner hiker or those with dubious footing.
