What is the agenda for the activity? What can participants expect? Your Tandem Skydive will include about 25 minutes of ground school that will explain skydiving equipment, maneuvers and safety instruction. Then you’ll board a super twin otter airplane for a 15 minute flight to altitude. Once at altitude, your tandem dive master will be latched to you and together you’ll jump into freefall. At approximately 5,500 feet you or your tandem master will deploy the parachute and the two of you will enjoy a gentle ride down to the dropzone. If you’re up to it, you will be able to steer the canopy on the way down.
The Accelerated Free Fall (AFF) program’s Solo Jump is the first step in obtaining your skydiving license. After about 4 to 6 hours of training, two certified freefall Jumpmasters will accompany you on your solo skydive. They will jump alongside you and make sure you’re stable and fully capable of deploying your own parachute (all parachutes also contain an automatic deployment device). Once you deploy, the instructors break away and you’re on your own as you sail under the canopy. Your Jumpmasters will maintain constant contact with you and assist you back down to the dropzone via radio. Ground school concentrates on teaching basic safety skills such as altitude awareness, body position, stability during freefall, and most importantly, successful ripcord pull.
More experienced jumpers looking to receive their Skydiving Certification (see "Certifications" tab above for more in-depth discussion) will be taught a variety of air skills such as turns, forward movement and docking on other people, frontloops, backloops, "superman" exits, etc.
What should the participants bring or wear? Is all equipment included? Parachute, harness, goggles, jumpsuit and all other equipment is included with your skydiving experience, however, please wear comfortable clothing and athletic shoes. Pictures, video cassettes and DVD’s of your skydive can be purchased on location for additional cost. How long should the participants allow for the activity from start to finish? Please allow 2 to 4 hours for the Tandem Jump to allow for check-in, ground school and pre-flight safety checks. The AFF Level One Solo Jump experience begins at 9AM with 4 to 6 hours of ground school. However, please allow a full day for this activity as you will only be able to jump when your jumpmasters feel you are ready and the weather and other conditions are ideal.
When and Where does the activity take place? Your skydiving experience will take place over the beautiful Lake Elsinore and Ortega Mountains in California located approximately one-hour’s drive from both Los Angeles and San Diego. Tandem Jumps can be scheduled any day of the week (including Sunday) between 9AM and 4PM. Solo Jump ground school begins at 9AM on your scheduled jump day with the Level One AFF Solo Jump taking place in the afternoon.
Are there any restrictions (age, weight, health, etc.)? Members must be in reasonably good health to skydive with height and weight being proportionate, and at least 18 years of age. For Tandem Jumps, weight limit is 230 pounds; for Solo Jump limit is 225 pounds.
Can spectators be accommodated? Spectators are welcome and encouraged, but must follow facility guidelines as some areas of the dropzone are restricted to skydivers. Dropzone facilities in Lake Elsinore include an outdoor bar (absolutely no alcohol consumption before your skydive!), covered picnic area, and souvenir shop.
Can minors participate? Skydivers must be at least 18 years of age to participate in this experience.
Can persons with disabilities be accommodated? All skydivers must be in reasonably good health to participate in this experience, however, special cases are reviewed by the Chief Jumpmaster and Instructor and accommodations may be made depending on each situation. In some cases, a physicians’ approval may be required. Can large groups or corporate events be accommodated? Large groups and corporate events are welcome. The skydiving staff, facilities, aircraft and jumpmasters’ experience allow for large groups and a variety of special requests to be accommodated.
Are there any availability or timing restrictions? Skydives will not take place during bad weather (e.g. overcasts, raining, high winds, etc.). Scheduled jumps cancelled due to bad weather will be re-scheduled for a later date.
Tandem Jumps can be scheduled any day of the week (including Sunday) between 9AM and 4PM. Solo Jump ground school begins at 9AM on your scheduled jump day with the Level One AFF Solo Jump taking place in the afternoon.
